Monet: Scenes From a Series of Paintings

Ueno Royal Museum
Finished

Artists

Claude Monet
Claude Monet (1840-1926), a master Impressionist, excelled at using soft colors and warm light and left many works in which the breath of nature can be felt.
Monet used a unique technique to depict fleeting expressions, the movement of the wind, and the changing of time. He painted the same place or theme from different angles, at different times, and in different seasons, and presented them as a “series.

The "series" are a strong reflection of Monet's artistic spirit as a painter, as they reveal his inquisitiveness about time and light as he tried to capture the changing landscape and all its expressions.

This exhibition focuses on Monet's "series of paintings," which are widely known in Japan as a synonym for his work, and traces the life of a painter who was in constant dialogue with time and light.

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first Impressionist exhibition in 1874, the exhibition will bring together more than 60 of Monet's representative works carefully selected from more than 30 collections around the world.

Visitors will be able to enjoy the magnificent world of Monet's art by following the process that led to the "series of paintings," one of his innovative methods of expression, all of which are Monet's works, through the exhibition.
