Pablo Picasso (1881~1973) stands as a giant in the annals of Western art history. With extraordinary vision he overturned the traditional conventions of painting and produced one masterpiece after another based on completely new ideas that would greatly influence the course of 20th century art. This exhibition focuses on Picasso works in which the human figure is the central motif, and will present over 60 paintings, 60 drawings and three works of sculpture.
The works in this exhibition have been chosen from among a select group of works that Picasso had a special affinity for and kept with him until his death, at which time they were bequeathed to his wife Jacqueline. Until now, there have been very few occasions when large portions of this collection have been shown together, and we are proud to bring it to Japan for the first time. This rich collection that Picasso left to his wife will surely give us a rare opportunity to share in the visions of this most uniquely creative of artists.
