Pop Art & Co.: The Berardo Collection - Sintra Museum of Modern Art

Bunkamura Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, James Rosenquist
Pop Art was born in England in the 1950s and went on to mass popularity and commercial success in the USA. Shaking the very foundations of the traditional art world, Pop Art expanded the boundaries of what is considered to be art. After taking the world by storm in the 1960s, the genre became one of the recognized 20th century art movements. Pop Art depicted familiar subjects such as everyday household items, Hollywood stars, and comic book characters. Stripping art of its elite veneer, it was approachable even for those who had previously had no interest in art. The current exhibition will feature many works by leading Pop Artists including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and James Rosenquist, as well as pieces by artists that followed in their lead; all from the Berardo Collection of Modern Art, the pride of Portugal. Most of these 80 works will be shown in Japan for the first time and should not be missed!
