The 'Sukimono' - Method after Rimpa

Museum of Modern Art, Gunma
Finished

Artists

Yoshihiko Kitano, Takashi Suzuki, Atsuo Fukuda, Carl Stone, Kenzo Onoda, Claude Monet, Korin Ogata
“Concept Space”, which bases its operations in Shibukawa, has introduced Japan to modern art for 22 years and is highly regarded worldwide despite its rural location.
This exhibition raises doubts against the foreign cultural methodology imported into Japan since the Meiji Restoration, and instead probes the cultural identity of the mental scheme of Japanese art. The “Rimpa” movement was modeled after in this investigation.
Yoshihiko Kitano diffuses the boundary between 3D and illustration, while Takashi Suzuki inquires the origins of chromatic memory. Atsuo Fukuda reconstructs famous pictures and sculptures through computer analyses alongside Carl Stone who collects sound sources and sublimates them into original music. Kenzo Onoda attempts a reconstruction of acoustic space and the temporal transition of a luminescent surface. Works by Claude Monet and Korin Ogata will also be on display.
