Sachiyo Tsurumi Exhibition "Shape of the Retina"

Artists

Sachiyo Tsurumi
The artist Sachiyo Tsurumi creates installation work of "the home" -- matching wallpaper and carpeting, sofa arranged as though it is in a private home, the artist's own photographs gracing the walls, a large potted plant right in the center of the room. The rooms are seemingly chic, but there is something unsettling. Upon closer inspection, her work reveals itself to be an elaboration of the uncanny --large burn marks on the carpet, the image on the TV screen turns out to be only a reflection of the wallpaper. The disquieting air ensues. In addition, the artist employs bright summer lights and snow whites, which make objects appear radioactive, or like retinal images or a desert heat mirage. In this exhibition, the artist will display her photographs and create drawings on the walls of the gallery.
