Noriko Yoshida
Yoshida’s works are two-dimensional “Fiber Art”. Onto her canvas, she rendered the views of high-rise buildings and light reflection on the building windows as she recollected her days of New York life. She transformed the radiance of Manhattan like crystal rocks into forms and compositions on the collages with threads, fabrics and lead pieces and with gouache.“New York, you know, is much bigger than Tokyo.” “When I stood at the spot in Times Square New York City, I remembered this phrase in the textbook from the Junior High School. I was overwhelmed by the soaring buildings and fascinated at the same time by the dynamic power of musicians who were performing on the platform in a subway station. I kept pace with the crowd and rested for a while in the park in the middle of the Manhattan building forest. New York has some magical appeal to me. The city appears to represent power, liberty, and the right amount of solitude, which felt just right for me.”
