The resulting effect of Japan's seclusion on a political, economical and philosophical level in the early modern age is called sakoku (seclusion of country). The material in this feature exhibition, dealing with matters of international relations in the Edo period (1603-1868), reveal how the Japanese people under the seclusion policy gained information about foreign countries and tried to understand them.
