Artists

Horst Antes
Horst Antes is renowned for his “kopffüssler” or “head-footer” (creatures with legs attached directly to a disproportionately large head and usually a gigantic single eye) paintings, but is also an avid collector of Primitive art. His early work “Navajo Houses” reflected his interest in the culture and universal vision of the Native Americans in the Southwest US. Marking a distinct transition away from his previous work, the artist presents a new series of “Houses” executed in gouache, lithographs and aquatint. The more simplified houses in this series render a firmer presence and bid the viewers to rethink one’s notion of a “house.”
