The World of sueki Wares

Tokyo National Museum
Finished
"Sueki Wares" are kiln-fired unglazed stonewares that were imported into Japan from Korea during the Mid-Kofun period.
Wares with smaller attachments called "komochi sueki" (sueki with children), those accompanied by human-shaped figures, and those with other unique shapes, are called "Decorative Sueki". Most of them were excavated from burial grounds, and are thought to have been funerary goods. They are important witnesses to the spiritual world of Kofun period.
This exhibition will display Sueki Wares alongside literature documenting their archaeological significance.
