Blessed by Mother Nature, Japan has conceived a very distinct culture in which spiritual richness and love of beauty have been fostered since the old days of the Myriad Leaves. Sadly enough, nowadays, with natural disasters and man-made calamities hitting the very source of life, there seems to be no end to the destruction of nature.
Despite all this, both Yakushima and Shiretoko have officially become world natural heritage sites, proving that Japan's natural beauty is cherished across all borders. In order to preserve that beauty, all citizens need to be aware of their environment, and must feel deeply connected to it and each other.
Pola has joined the battle to preserve nature, an endeavour for which it received the Award for Afforestation Promotion in 2004. Other campaigns include contributions to the introduction of an environmental management system, achieving zero-emission at the production level, the designing of refill packs, etc.
As part of these activities, the photo exhibition "Nature Conservation as Art" in cooperation with the Forest Culture Association has reached its second edition. Themed "Light and Art", the exhibition features work by photographer Nobuyuki Takahashi, who is known for his pictures of the moon, and writer Satomi Tamura who showcases her own little world through handmade Japanese-style paper.
A gallery talk entitled "Water, Woods, and Blessing" will take place on February 4 (Sat), from 2pm to 3pm at the Pola Museum Annex. Free admittance, but only 30 seats are available. RSVP by telephone from 10am to 6pm at 03-3563-5501.
