Artists

Tomoko Yoneda
"Memory" and "Time" are the basic themes of Yoneda's art works. With this series, Yoneda is warning us against forgetting historical realities when enjoying beautiful images. The artist is suggesting that we can sincerely enjoy living in the present time without forgetting or becoming blind to harsh memories or truth.
Yoneda selected two countries as the main subjects of her new works. One is “Water” as leitmotif of Republic of Hungary, which has a history of being at the mercy of its neighboring larger countries. The other is “Forest” as the Republic of Estonia, which has yet to see 12 years since its independence from the Soviet Union. In these two countries, many remnants of the Communist-era are still much evident in the town. Yoneda beautifully transfers to her frames the afterimage of a redundant ideology caused by the political system difference. Her perspective is not only about beauty, it is passionate and thoughtful.
