"Little Red Riding-Hood" and Original Masterpiece Picture Books

Itabashi Art Museum
Finished
This event showcases about 350 books and illustrations from the world renowned Little Red Riding Hood Collection of the Troisdorf's Picture Book Museum in Germany. Most of these works were collected by the Waltmans during their residence in Zurich, and range from a "Little Red Riding-Hood" chapbook, which was published in 1819 in Britain, and a rare French Grimm Story Collection, which contains a copper-plate engraving, to anything the Waltmans found relating to Little Red Riding-Hood, such as chocolate forms, coat hangers, and jigsaw puzzles. This exhibition brings 200 years of Little Red Riding-Hood magic, in all its shapes and colours.
On top of that, Troisdorf presents about 200 original images from old school picture books, including works from Leo Lionni, Janosch, and Jozef Wilkon, who all enjoy a considerable popularity in Japan, yet whose original images are still a rare sight in Japan.
