Artists

Masahiko Kuwahara
Masahiko Kuwahara was born in 1959 in Tokyo.
What is consistently expressed in Kuwahara's work is the darkness that surrounds the contemporary society, and the overwhelming feeling of emptiness that arises in those of us living in such society. The title of this exhibition, "Land Development", stands for the actual ruin and deterioration that lies in the name of development.
In an era where meaning and narrative are received with skepticism, the artist attempts to create a world where words are refuted and motifs exist as part of a dry scenery. Kuwahara says, "I want to draw a part of this world that is overflowing with strange ideas" The atmosphere of the works depict has a peculiar feeling of distance, and is full of twisted common sense and thoughts.
There are 20 small and large paintings in this exhibition.
