Edo and Kiryu's Cultural Exchange Exhibition - Gunma Prefectural Women's College Project

Museum of Modern Art, Gunma
Finished
This is the second event in the series, a cooperation of the Gunma prefectural women's college, following last autumn's Kohouan exhibition from the Inoue collection. This project is based on the ideas of the students and represents new ways of looking at cultural heritage. This time, the focus lays on the cultural exchange between the Kiryu province and the capital Edo. The 'Kasenruijou', a set of poems by Kiryu merchant Tansai Saba in particular, forms the starting point of the student's quest back into time. In addition to reflecting the relationship between Money and the Arts, this vast collection of historical documents is also hoped to deepen understanding of the regional-central dynamics during the Edo period.
