Finished
Itsukushima Shrine, inaugurated by the Hei-shi in the Heian Era (late 8th to late 12th centuries), and declared a World Heritage Site in 1996, suffered devastating damage when it was hit by a hurricane in September 2004. Damages were estimated at 7.5 million dollars, and time of recovery at two years. This exhibition is held to aid the recovery process.
It will feature 17 of the 33 “Hei-ke No-kyo”, considered the crown achievement of decorated sutras, in rotation. 9 armaments and holy relics declared national treasures will also be on display with 18 Important Cultural Assets, as part of 113 items to be displayed in 32 sets. Proceeds will go to the recovery process.
