Artists

Eva Svankmajerova, Jan Svankmajer
There exists today in Japan, a vogue of Russian and eastern European animation films. From the Republic of Czech, the geographical center of Europe, Jan Švankmajer (1934- ) is an outstanding example of this creative film movement. Apart from his well known short films, he has recently endeavored in the creation long animation films. "Alice" (1987) and "Faust"(1994) have already won him international success.
In this exhibition, there will be around 170 works of paintings and objects, including those of surrealist experimentation which underline the works of the Švankmajers. Puppets, machineries, and thetrical sets used in films such as "Faust," "Conspirators of Pleasure," "Otesanek," as well as objects and photos from their new film "Lunacy" (to be released in 2006), will be displayed.
Complementing the exhibition is the projection of their films in our auditorium, entitled "Švankmajer Film Festival in HAYAMA" on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 23 September to 30 October (total of 14 days).
