A reverence for nature, an inner calm, a sense of harmony, a delicate aesthetic balance - qualities that uniquely define the traditional arts of Japan, Korea, China and Taiwan - are still very much evident in the work of contemporary artists.
Work by 26 artists is presented - including painting, sculpture, installation, photography, video, craft and design - arranged broadly into two sections. The first deals with nature in the great outdoors, and features works relating to traditional depictions of mountains, hills, the sky, rocks, trees, water, wind and flowers. The second is more concerned with the organization of man-made interior spaces and architecture, such as thresholds, private rooms and ceremonial sites where the ancient art of feng shui has traditionally been applied.
