Media: Drawing, Other
Nichido Contemporary Art is pleased to present the Belgian artist Jean-Luc Moerman's first solo show in Tokyo, Japan with his new works.
Moerman draws tattoos onto magazine clippings and posters. Tattoos are from Eastern philosophy to symbolize personal identities such as religion and classes. Moerman, however, put the tattoos onto the models in magazines, such as Kate Moss in Vogue, nude models in Playboy magazine and George Bush on the cover of Time magazine. It can be also said that by drawing tattoos he places additional value to the commodities that are usually consumed and thrown out quickly. They give a strong visual impact to the audience. That is because of not only the unique elaborated graphics but also a glimpse into the face under the mask of the subject.
