Painting of Kano School

Okura Shukokan Museum of Fine Arts

This event has ended.

"Those who set their heart on becoming a painter call on the Kanoh school at least once in their life", or so it is said of the Kanoh school, which generation after generation produced some of the most outstanding painters in Japan from the 15th to 19th centuries. The Kanoh style is Chinese-looking in subject matter and in its ink monochrome medium, but very Japanese in its expression. The simple direct style is representative of the Japanese sense of beauty.
This is a great oppotunity to discover the Kanoh-style paintings owned by this museum, which include National Important Cultural Assets, and hidden masterpieces.
