The show looks at the activities of Chermayeff & Geismar Inc., a leader of the New York graphic design world for nearly a half century. The roughly 150 items in the exhibition cover a broad range of fields and periods. Representative posters and book designs are included, as well as Watching Words Move, an experiment in type design that now exudes a classical aura, and Logomotion, which seamlessly presents sixty logos and trademarks designed by the firm. The energy, intellectuality and sophistication displayed by the works are typical of New York design. Copies of "Designing:", a book published in conjunction with the show, will be on sale during the exhibition.
