Ayaru Koizumi and Keiho Takada - The Painters Network as seen in Edo Painting -
This event has ended.
At Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Fine Arts
Media: Painting
This exhibition seeks to explore the process in which merchants from west Japan constructed a network of artists and intellectuals in Edo and Mito during the Edo Shogunate.
They key player is Keiho Takada (1674-1755), a student of Eikyo Kano who established himself as a popular painter in Edo. Being from Oumi-Hino, Takada was also an enthusiastic teacher whose students included Toshibe Shimazaki (later "Unpo") son of a wealthy merchant family. Unpo in turn, was the teacher of Ayaru Koizumi (1765-1854), famed depictor of Ayu (sweetfish).
Works by the above artists, as well as those by others counted among this network, such as Kokan Gazo, Settei Tsukioka, Shohaku Soga will be on display.
