The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo
Finished

Artists

Kokei Kobayashi
Kokei Kobayashi (1883-1957) was an artist who, in a period of new art consciousness (Taisho to Showa eras), managed to innovate and push the format of Japanese painting while preserving its traditional essence. With its simple, sharp lines and clear colours, Kokei’s graceful style continues to appear fresh to its audience.
The exhibition retraces his artistic achievement in 100 representative works divided into three periods - Meiji, Taisho and Showa.
