Fumio Nambata
Fumio Nambata (1941-1974) was famous for his sensitive sceneries. He won the sympathy of many people by drawing his own joy and pain without any concealment or euphemistic tendency.
Born in Setagaya (Tokyo) as the second son of Tatsuoki Nambata, he, just like his father, aspired to become a painter. In 1960, he enrolled at the Culture Lyceum's Fine Arts Department but dropped out 2 years later out of discontent with the classes. After that, he worked on his art using his own methods. By not following a set course and choosing freedom of thought and expression, Fumio on the other hand lived a life of solitude. The introvert nature of his work has its origins there.
Out of the ca. 2000 pieces Fumio created, Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery owns more than 270 works. This exhibition mainly focuses on his aquarelles and oil paintings, which express the core of his artistry and add up to about 100 works. They will be your guide through 15 years of artistic devotion.
