Olafur Eliasson "Your Light Shadow"

Hara Museum of Contemporary Art (Tokyo)

Artists

Olafur Eliasson
This show marks Eliasson's first solo exhibition at a Japanese art museum, and precedes the installation of a permanent installation by the artist on the museum's rooftop next spring. In addition to his latest installations, which draw spectators into a unique world through the manipulation of light, color and space, the show is scheduled to feature drawings and a scale model of the permanent installation, and a representative early work entitled Beauty.
In this exhibition, the artist throws out various questions concerning colors. Where is the border between red and yellow? How would we perceive things in a world devoid of colors? Above all else, perception and experience by the viewer are what his work is all about. The viewers' interpretation is influenced by their culture and history, and even more by their psychological state. By bringing ourselves face to face with his work, we come face to face with our own consciousness. One might say his work is a mechanism by which to sharpen and clarify our sensibilities. Notable about Eliasson’s work is a power of expression that extends beyond mere technical skill. You are invited to come and enjoy the creativity—and sublimity—of his world.
