Naofumi Maruyama
Naofumi Maruyama was born in Japan in 1964 and started his artistic career in the early 90's. After a two-year stay in Berlin, he showed his work at the Taipei Biennial in 2002, the inaugural exhibition "Happiness" at Tokyo's Mori Art Museum in 2003 as well as in the "Elegance of Silence" exhibition at the Mori Art Museum again in 2005.
His paintings employ the staining technique, an irreversible process, which yields tense composition to the preexisting sensuous quality of beauty. His work remains fresh, as the motif he chooses and his style of paintings never stay still, almost as if it were fluid. There, we can find his intention to float over the boundary between the abstract and the figurative with a specific technique of expression.
Shugoarts presents its inaugural show at its new location by introducing Maruyama’s new paintings with increased hybridity, cast shine of lights and darks and a strong appeal to the viewer's sensitivity.
