Fashion is a sign of the times. The unification of East and West Germany in 1989, for example, changed the face of German fashion. The increasing importance of youth culture in general, and the experimental electronic music scene in particular, gave birth to an autonomous and sharp "German Style". Young designers, brought up with the denial of traditional values, went through an age of change. Now, they experiment with various styles, contemplating their roots. This avant-garde evolution continues to receive a lot of world-wide attention; young German designers are increasingly gaining momentum in the international fashion scene with their works, which reflect the country's traditional past as well as its innovative present.
The exhibition consists of two parts, each set up by 10 different artists: an installation, themed "German-ness", and a creative clash, called "My Outfit for Tokyo". Together, they provide a broad overview of German contemporary fashion.
