Kae Higuchi
Kae Higuchi was born in Sendai in 1975. She studied printmaking while at Tohoku Seikatsu Bunka Daigaku, and was later drawn to the whiteness and the texture of tempera and self-taught herself its techniques. She later established her own style by combining tempera and oil painting techniques.
Many of the boys and girls in her works have small eyes and mouths, and are enveloped with an air of pensiveness in a way that is characteristic of the tempera colors. Through these motifs, Higuchi strives to convey moments in time when one recalls certain memories and their ephemerality. This exhibition features 10 of Higuchi's works, all full of the warmth rendered by the tempera technique.
