Artists

Noritoshi Hirakawa
Hirakawa is known for his conceptual projects that address issues ranging from social, political, economical, sexual to historical. In this series entitled “The Layers from Capital,” Hirakawa captures Wall Street, which has been at the center of capitalism for over 80 years, and its raw everyday cityscapes. He reveals through his images that despite its intellectual and alluring presence, Wall Street is, in essence, full of varying forms of gritty desire. “The true nature of this so-called ‘capitalism’ is colonialism,” states Hirakawa, “which was created by a systematic form of justification; and like being in the art world, only when one sees what lies behind the aesthetic landscape, can one deduce the real essence of capitalism.”
His other photographic works, "Dance of Karma" (a tribute to Stanley Kubrick), and "Over the Top of Urakami Cathedral" (addressing the bombing of Nagasaki) will also be on display.
