This year brings the 7th installment of European Eyes on Japan/Japan Today, a photography project launched in 1999 with the theme of People and Their Lives in Contemporary Japan. This project invites keen European photographers to travel and record various prefectures of Japan, with their photographs then published and exhibited throughout Japan and Europe.
The works included in this 7th edition are by four European photographers, and were shot in Kanagawa, Iwate and Gifu prefectures from September to December 2004. The scenes of daily life and people depicted in their views of Japan will provide opportunities for Japanese people to look afresh on aspects of their daily routines that they tend to overlook for being over-familiar. It will also be an opportunity for foreigners to deepen their understanding of Japan and sense a closer relationship with Japanese people.
