Takenori Miyamoto
A photography exhibition, in which paired works are displayed as if they are mirror images. In the series "Anonymous", students at Thai Japanese Association School are photographed in pairs, dressed in their school uniform and standing in front of a green forest-like backdrop. Despite being aware that they have been manipulated, there is an element of illusion and magic in these images, and one can easily be tricked into believing the paired subjects are real identical twins. The series "Antipodes" takes up plants, houses and landscapes for its main motifs, which are mirrored at the line of symmetry. Among some of those images are identical homes, crosses that loom as if in a cemetery, dogs that look that like they have been cut open. Although seemingly unreal, the images also give a sense of déjà vu. The repetition of these images are reminiscent of the order and the rhythmical symmetry that can be found within nature.
