Murayama Tomoyoshi, Kurt Schwitters
This exhibition introduces the Mavo era, which flourished within the avant-garde art movement in Japan. Mavo, established by Tomoyoshi Murayama in 1923 after his returning from a 9-month stay in Berlin, was an art group as well as the name of the magazine they edited.
The show also examines the relationships between Mavo and Merz, the Dada movement started by Kurt Schwitters in Germany.
