Kobayashi was born in Tokyo in 1957, and currently works and lives in Gent, Belgium. He considers his work as a body consisting of a canvas skin and a frame. His peculiar style of painting, rubbing paint into the canvas without using brushes, echoes how he feels that it is too late to paint a canvas after it has been stretched on a frame.
The show is composed of his recent paintings and drawings, including a 2001 yellow painting and a 3 meter-wide nude painting from the series "Starry Paint" on which he has been working since 2003.
