Namio Egami
Dr. Namio Egami (1906-2002), professor emeritus at Tokyo University, collected an extensive amount of archaeological and historical material in Inner Mongolia during the pre-war period. A segment of his collection was contributed by his family in 2003 and 2004, and will be displayed in this exhibition.
Known for proposing the thesis that the Yamato emperors were equestrian conquerors from the Asian mainland, Dr. Egami led research expeditions ranging 4000 kilometers across Inner Mongolia in 1931 and 1935. His journeys were documented in the book “Across the Mongolian Steppes”, published in 1937 by the Asahi Shimbun.
Taking cue from his writings and photographs, this exhibition hopes to trace the wake of Dr. Egami’s observations in Inner Mongolia.
