Masterpieces of the Museum Island, Berlin - Visions of the Divine in the Sanctuary of Art

Tokyo National Museum
Finished
This will be the first opportunity to see the reunited collection of Berlin's Museum Island. A highlight exhibition for the "Deutschland in Japan 2005/2006" celebration, approximately 160 works centered on the theme of the "divine" will be available for viewing.
The history of Berlin's Museum Island goes back to 1830. After many additions done over a full century, 1930 saw the emergence of one of the most magnificent museum complexes in the western world. Unfortunately, many buildings and works were damaged or lost during the Second World War, and the Museum Island was separated during the Cold War with the entire city of Berlin.
When Germany was reunited in 1989, the Museum Island was also reunited. Listed as a World Heritage Site in 1999, it is currently going through a series of renovations scheduled to be completed in 2015.
