Janaina Tschape “Lacrimacorpus”
This event has ended.
At Nichido Contemporary Art
Media: Drawing, Photography, Video installation
This is German-Brazilian artist Janaina Tschape's second solo show in Tokyo. This exhibition consists of 6 photographic works and 1 DVD, which were shown at ACC gallery Weimar in 2004, along with polaroids and drawings, which were made especially for this show.
Latin for "tear body", the myth of "Lacrimacorpus" is about an ugly creature that avoided being seen by others, and in the end dissolved in its own tears. The video featured in this exhibition is set in Weimar Germany, which once stood for its cultural, social and political significance and experienced various movements such as Romanticism, Fascism, Bauhaus and Modernism. The female protagonist dons a costume worn in the first performance of Goethe's "Faust" and rubber tears to express the Realism and Romanticism that lies in the memory of the historic city.
