Makiko Kudo
Makiko Kudo was born in 1978 in Aomori, Japan. She graduated from the Joshibi University of Art and Design (Oil Painting Department) in 2002, and she is now working based in Tokyo.
Things that she encounters in her daily life usually fuse with her imagination and the resulting mysterious mindscapes become backgrounds for her paintings. Girls, kittens, birds, forest, flowering plants, and beds are the kind of simple motifs that enliven her works. Her choice of motifs might appear girlish and trendish, but on the other hand, one can find her treatment of the surface to be of very classical Japanese origins. The depth in her paintings is abstract and their flatness is merged with several perspects. Three-dimensional colors are seemingly painted out of the surface.
This exhibition will feature 10 of Kudo's latest works in various sizes.
