Setsuko Migishi
More than 90 works by Migishi Setsuko will be exhibited to celebrate her 100th anniversary. She was born in 1905 in Aichi prefecture, graduated from a woman’s art school, and then became an artist. She married Kotaro Migishi, attracted to her talents, and raised three children while painting.
In 1959 at age 49, she traveled to Southern France, Spain, and Vienna where she was fascinated by the local colors. After her return, she worked on her "Flying Birds" series at her summerhouse in Karuizawa. At age 63, she moved back to France and spent about 20 years producing more works there.
