"Pieces of Light"

Gunma Museum of Art, Tatebayashi
Finished

Artists

Miki Ukai, Kazumi Tsuji
In the winter, the sun hangs low and the late morning light abundantly fills exhibition room 1 through the glass wall in the south of the museum. This room becomes the stage for Miki Ukai and Kazumi Tsuji's collaboration called "Pieces of Light", a piece of collaborative art with Nature itself.
Ukai's installation: dozens of small glass cups the size of two handpalms held together are filled with water and put on the floor, as if somebody skimmed some water and sprinkled it all over the floor. In contrast, glass artist Tsuji hangs self-made glass tears from the ceiling. These glass drops hang still at different heights and reflect the surroundings.
With their 'water' and 'tear drops' both reflecting natural light, these two glass artists have done a tremendous job at resonating the purity of a little universe in which light, water and glass ripple in harmony.
