Shintaro Miyake
Shintaro Miyake was born in 1970 in Tokyo. He graduated from Tama Art University (Department of Fine Art, Painting Department Print Major) and has been working in Tokyo.
Miyake's works are drawings, sculptures and performances and many other art forms. But his most representative form is cut-out pieces of girls and other forms that Miyake draws on cardboards and thin wooden boards. Also characteristic are his live performances in which he dons handmade costumes, and live draws.
This time, Miyake has chosen the Japanese civil war period (Sengoku era, 1467-1615) as his main theme. "Atsumori" was an officer of the Heike clan, and was killed at the Ichinotani battle by Kumagai Naozane, one of the officers of the Genji clan. Traditional Japanese Noh play "Atsumori", which is based on "The Tale of Heike", is about the sorrow of Atsumori's death. In his work, Miyake depicts military commanders fighting in the battle. The audience will be able to get a glimpse of the feverish excitement of this battle through his work. In addition, there will be a 3-meter tall sculpture work in this exhibition, and one of Miyake's own performances on the opening day.
