This is an exhibition of the collection of the late Toru Sunouchi, former owner of the “Gendai Gallery” in Ginza. Gaining fame through his “Capricious Museum” essays in the art magazine “Geijutsu Shincho”, he provided a colorful and insightful view of the artists, dealers and artworks constituting the postwar art world in Japan.
His personal collection, assembled on whim, can also be considered fitting of the title “Capricious Museum”. After his passing, the collection was transferred intact to the Miyagi Prefectural Museum, and continues to enthrall viewers to this day. 87 oil paintings, 44 sketches and watercolors, 13 prints, and 2 miscellaneous works were borrowed from the MPM, comprising a total of 146 works on display.
