Jim Lambie
Jim Lambie’s first solo exhibition in Japan will be held in Mizuma Art Gallery (2F) and Action Mizuma (5F).
Born in Glasgow in 1964, Lambie is a young artist already receiving great recognition in both domestic and international art scenes. He began to show in major venues in the late 1990’s, and was a nominee for the Turner Prize 2005.
Lambie's work is famous for carrying strong references from everyday life and pop culture, using ordinary materials and found objects transforming them to a new incarnation.
At Mizuma Art Gallery, Lambie plans to show one of his signatory site-specific installation piece "Zobop". It covers the entire gallery floors with perfectly fitted multicolored fluorescent vinyl tapes in an intricate, geometric pattern then, placing several specially-made sculpture works on it to create a glamorous and dynamic sculptural installation. On the fifth floor new works made by Lambie in Tokyo will be exhibited.
What is Lambie going to experience from metropolis Tokyo, where numerous genres of cultures co-exist in a hype of constant transition, and what sort of materials is he going to select from it?
