Zhang Xiaogang
Zhang Xiaogang is one of the key figures in the Chinese contemporary art scene, and through his use of old family photographs as the basis for his portraits, he conveys a sense of connection to his bloodline and to the tremulous changes of modern Chinese society. This exhibition is his first solo show in Japan and in addition to his paintings, some of his lithographs and photographs will be display.
On July 8th at Le Cinema in Shibuya's Bunkamura, there will be a screening of "The Sunflowers of the Hutongs (Hutong no himawari)" in which some of his artworks appear. Set against the backdrop of the years following the Cultural Revolution, the film portrays the feelings of love and conflict between a father and his son.
