Ryudai Takano
Ryudai Takano is a photographer who takes portraits of men from a unique approach. In a lighting studio, the models are made to take a variety of clichéd poses, and while doing so, gradually take off the clothes that they are wearing. As the models' regular attributes are being formalised and the connection with them is being abstracted, one may hesitate to look at this moment at which their physiques have been made apparent, this moment when we are being introduced to the beauty of their figures. These works were made from the point of view of a man who is highly conscious of the fact that to look also means to be looked at.
This is the first exhibition Takano has held following his receipt of the 31st Ihei Kimura Photography Prize.
