Vienna Art Academy, the oldest art school in the central European region, has been conducting a leading role in art education in Austria since 1726. Its art gallery is the oldest public art museum in Vienna with the collection of art works ranging from the Renaissance to the present time. Its size is the second largest after the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Austria.
Their collection is based on 740 pieces of art works bequeathed by Anton Graf Lamberg-Sprinzenstein (1740-1822), who worked for Maria Theresia (1717-1780). Vienna at the time was the center of cultural activities where Mozart (1756-1791) and Schubert (1797-1828) took an active part.
The exhibition consists of around 80 master works including 4 Lucas Cranachs from the German Renaissance period, 2 Peter Paul Rubens, an Anthonis van Dyck, a Rembrandt from the 17th century Baroque period, a Bartolome Esteban Murillo from the Spanish Baroque period, 3 Francesco Guaridi from the 18th century Italian period and paintings by the Academy professors.
