TAB Event - Hiroshi Sugimoto "Art Capturing"

色彩も白と黒で、ここまでそぎ落とされた写真で、その点では過去に開かれていたルイザ・ランブリと共通するポイントがあるように思えたけど、やっぱり違った作品だった。切り取られたシーンの続きが見たくなる感じ。でもそもそも続きがあるのかも分からない。

杉本氏は著書『苔のむすまで』でもわかりますが非常に思惟深い人物。
その深遠さというものが作品からも伺えます。
写真からネガポジの深淵を感じます。

Although showing his great talent for expressing space, line and form the photographs in this exhibition don't really do justice to Sugimoto's mastery as a photographer. These works have a noticeable absence of the elements that have given Sugimoto's previous series' their magnitude and power: references to narrative, to the passing of time, to the notion of the "real" - all missing here.

They are visually interesting but this seems more like a temporary exploration than work which has reached any level of fruition. Disappointing.
