色彩も白と黒で、ここまでそぎ落とされた写真で、その点では過去に開かれていたルイザ・ランブリと共通するポイントがあるように思えたけど、やっぱり違った作品だった。切り取られたシーンの続きが見たくなる感じ。でもそもそも続きがあるのかも分からない。
杉本氏は著書『苔のむすまで』でもわかりますが非常に思惟深い人物。
その深遠さというものが作品からも伺えます。
写真からネガポジの深淵を感じます。

"Look at what I'm thinking," are the last words of the poem Jonathan Safran Foer wrote to accompany Hiroshi Sugimoto's photographs in the book "Joe." They could just as easily be a concise description of the artist's approach toward his art ...
Although showing his great talent for expressing space, line and form the photographs in this exhibition don't really do justice to Sugimoto's mastery as a photographer. These works have a noticeable absence of the elements that have given Sugimoto's previous series' their magnitude and power: references to narrative, to the passing of time, to the notion of the "real" - all missing here.
They are visually interesting but this seems more like a temporary exploration than work which has reached any level of fruition. Disappointing.
