Replicas: Reproduction is Realization
This event has ended.
At INAX Gallery 1 & 2
Media: Ceramics
Bronze bells, clay figures, Buddha statues, Buddhist scriptures, and picture scrolls can now be reproduced using various materials and techniques. Following detailed investigations and repeated experimentation, it is now possible to imitate 1000 years of progress. Valued as precious secondary data, they play an active part in museum exhibitions, data preservation, and research. However, there are few people who know how they are made: surprisingly, they are created not with high technology but with the support of highly skilled craftsmen.
This exhibition, which showcases these "replicas", explores the value and meaning in the differences in use of material, form, and technique. Some replicated objects will be displayed alongside the originals. By presenting over 200 works, the rather-unknown behind-the-scenes world of these works will be revealed. It is hoped that the audience will realise that replicas are not mere fakes but are precious artworks that came to life with exquisite craftmanship.

Reviews
