Toru Kamei Exhibition
This event has ended.
At Gallery Naruyama
Media: Painting
Gallery Naruyama will be hosting the first solo exhibition of Kamei Toru whose oil paintings have already been shown at group exhibitions in the gallery.
As Kamei was an introverted recluse, his works of art express an obsession symbolizing a distorted form of self-love. While he passionately admires works from the Meiji Era, his aim is to create pieces that have never been seen before.
His work is completely different from the recent trends of art that are non-realistic and depicting emotional graffiti which tend to be one dimensional and manga-like and which focus on the superficial material world.
Kamei, by contrast, portrays an inner world by utilizing the power of Japanese religious spirituality. Also on display in this exhibition will be Kamei's tranquil paintings that have been influenced by the Vanitas, a style which was popular in Europe during the late 16th century.
