Matazo Kayama (1927-2004) was a multi-talented artist who tackled creative formats other than painting - frames, folding screens, fans, dyes, graving, design - and continually broke new grounds and shocked the post-war Japanese art world. After his death in 2004, approximately 5000 of his works were donated to Tama Art University by his own wishes and with the assistance of his surviving family. Subsequently, the Matazo Kayama Study Group was established in 2005.

This exhibition features 6 representative copperplate works and original plates, as well as the findings of copperplate researcher and Tama University gravings lecturer, Tatsumasa Watanabe. Along with the aim of gradually showing Kayama's valuable collection, the exhibition will also feature tests prints and sketches of his representative copperplates and screens, to reveal the process of his creations.
