Masaaki Nishi
Nishi is a highly acclaimed sculptor who has been producing work since the 1970s, both at home and internationally. Last year, he held "Forms of the Sky, the Earth, and Memory" at the Museum of Modern Art, Hayama, and won the Agency for Cultural Affairs' Best New Artist award. By burying his works in the earth, drowning them in water, or letting them breathe in the open air, Nishi has attempted to express the relationship between humans and nature.

Usually involved in large-scale works in forests or lakes, Nishi has agreed to hold this exhibition on the condition that he doesn't have to put the venue back in its original state after the exhibition is over. Moving the entrance of the gallery to the Shimbashi side in order to make the most of the view of Ginza street from Kyobashi to Shimbashi, he has placed a slit-like window in the 11 metre wall to incorporate the sunlight and neon of Ginza street. The installation focuses on the themes of light, darkness, and memory.
